Position Overview:

The Athletic Performance Graduate Internship offers a unique opportunity for individuals aspiring to build a career in athletic performance. This role involves assisting in the creation and execution of training and conditioning programs aimed at enhancing athletic capabilities. Flexibility to work during evenings, weekends, and holidays is a critical aspect of this position.

Commitment to Mission:

This role plays a vital part in upholding the institution's Catholic identity and its mission to empower graduates to effect positive change in society. As part of the Newman community, the intern will collaborate with the institution's sponsors to embody values of compassion, unity, and respect for diverse faiths and backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Organize and lead regular strength and conditioning sessions for student-athletes to ensure optimal physical readiness for competition.
  2. Work closely with Head Coaches to devise strategies that promote peak individual and team performance while fostering appropriate conduct aligned with the institution's mission.
  3. Assist in the daily upkeep and operation of the Fitness Center/Weight Room.
  4. Uphold all weight room, athletic department, and NCAA regulations consistently.
  5. Engage in educational initiatives and assignments.
  6. Support game-day operations as required.
  7. Maintain professionalism and ethical standards at all times.
  8. Exhibit knowledge of and adherence to NCAA Division II, MIAA Conference, and institutional regulations.
  9. Complete all mandatory university training, including FERPA and Title IX.
  10. Contribute to the Athletics department's success by performing additional duties as assigned and relevant to the role.
Qualifications and Skills:
  1. A Bachelor's degree is required.
  2. Must be accepted and enrolled full-time in a Master's degree program during the academic year.
  3. Prior experience in a collegiate athletic environment is preferred.
  4. A genuine interest in working with students and an understanding of their concerns and challenges.
  5. Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  6. Certification from a recognized strength and conditioning program is advantageous.
  7. AED and/or CPR certification is preferred.
  8. Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
Compensation and Benefits:
  1. This is a 12-month live-in position, with an annual contract renewal.
  2. Stipend of $2,000.00 distributed over 12 months.
  3. Furnished accommodation with complimentary cable and internet access.
  4. Board provided (meals available when dining hall is operational).
  5. Eligible for tuition waivers for fall, spring, and summer semesters, with the student responsible for books, fees, parking, and living expenses.
Additional Information:
  • The Graduate Assistant for Athletics Communications may not engage in full-time employment elsewhere. Any part-time work must receive prior approval from the Director of Athletics.
  • Tuition remission scholarships depend on enrollment status and class availability.
  • To maintain this role, the Graduate Assistant must uphold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00.
  • A criminal background check will be conducted prior to the employment offer.
