Job Title: Bilingual Family Support Coordinator FLSA Status: Exempt

The Bilingual Family Support Coordinator is responsible for delivering services in Montgomery County, MD.

Full Time, Days and Evenings, Monday through Friday 8am to 4pm, with some evenings required for family/student meetings.

General Overview:

Develop, monitor, and modify family service plans and tailored client services: Under the general supervision of a program supervisor, independently organizes work sequences, gathers necessary information and data, selects suitable methods and procedures, and adapts these as needed to address various case situations.

Provides comprehensive client services and case management: Offers substantial support and guidance, along with service assistance, that directly impacts the social, physical, and/or economic well-being of clients and, at times, their families/significant others.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Referrals:
  • Accepts referrals for social services
  • Assists clients in assessing their situations, defining their challenges, and identifying acceptable courses of action by leveraging recommended community services.
  • Conducts initial intakes/assessments
  • Collaborates with county/community agencies to identify and develop resources for client support

Family Service Plan and Tailored Client Services:
  • Analyzes issues involved in each case to develop family service plans for clients.
  • Determines intervention strategies and appropriate actions based on individual client needs.
  • Conducts follow-up contacts with clients and other agencies to ensure necessary services are provided.
  • Offers care management services to families with economic and/or social needs, including housing, healthcare, employment assistance, food, clothing, education, and other services. For specific program assignments, may provide additional services focusing on recently arrived migrant and asylum-seeking youth families.
  • Prepares and updates case records/client status reports.

General Client Services:
  • Engages in outreach and networking with youth, families, communities, schools, and other agencies.
  • Provides ongoing social services (including crisis assistance, supportive counseling, food, clothing, housing, employment, transportation, and financial aid).
  • Assists families with health insurance applications and offers information and referrals for community members, school staff, and non-school families.
  • Acts as an intermediary between clients and other agencies, advocating for their needs with public and private service providers.
  • Provides translation and interpretation services for clients when available.
  • Co-leads support groups.
  • Collaborates with community school coordinators, therapists, school staff, and community partners to deliver comprehensive care.
Case Management:
  • Ensures accurate recordkeeping for intakes, family needs assessments, family service plans, contact notes, and electronic database entries.
  • Stays informed about changes to and the issuance of new rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to program eligibility and service delivery.
  • Reviews programmatic and personal documents, maintains case notes and records, drafts memos and letters, and performs related functions.
  • Conducts home visits as required by contract obligations.

Training & Meetings:
  • Participates in program training and other events, as well as regular supervision.
  • Meets with program team members regularly to share information, provide training, and discuss solutions for challenges encountered in case management.
  • Attends meetings with clients and schools when appropriate.
  • Participates in company meetings and activities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  1. Bachelor's degree in a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  2. Prior experience serving families in need (internship experience is acceptable).
  3. Strong collaboration skills.
  4. Must demonstrate written and verbal fluency in English and Spanish.
  5. Experience working within collaborative school-based service delivery models.
  6. Prior experience or equivalent knowledge of immigrant populations and acculturation issues.
  7. Comprehensive knowledge of community resources in the Montgomery County area.
