Job Summary

A dedicated educator is sought to join the School District of Philadelphia as a Vocational Military Science Teacher. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering instruction in their subject area, adhering to the scope and sequence for all courses. The ideal candidate will provide students with real-life applications and simulations to enhance their learning experience.

Essential Functions
  • Assessment and Instruction: Assess students' skill levels and align classroom goals and activities to established state and local standards.
  • Subject Area Expertise: Provide instruction in the respective subject area, utilizing real-life applications and simulations to engage students.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide students with instruction emphasizing the use of tools, materials, processes, and applications of technology, including pertinent software applications.
  • Learning Experiences: Design learning experiences that require students to demonstrate comprehension of concepts and the ability to use technological resources in developing solutions to problems.
  • Classroom Environment: Create a classroom environment that provides students with access to subject-related materials that address their needs and interests.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with staff members within and across disciplines to integrate subject-specific skills across the curriculum.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with the latest developments and improvements in education as it affects the instructional program.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain classroom discipline and ensure a productive learning environment.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate attendance, grade, and other required records.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Certifications/Licenses

A valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Instructional Certificate in the respective grade level and endorsements in the respective subject area is required. Alternatively, an original, signed letter from the Certification Officer of an accredited college or university verifying current enrollment in an approved certification program may be presented in order to be eligible for an Emergency Permit.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of grade-level education, subject-specific expertise, and the contents, materials, methodologies, and practices utilized within education at the respective grade level.
  • Critical Thinking: Demonstrated ability to assess students' needs and learning styles, design differentiated instruction, and use simulations and technological innovations in the classroom.
  • Communication: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, administrators, supportive staff, parents, and students.
