Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Supervisory General Engineer to join our team at the Naval Foundry & Propeller Center (NFPC) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As a key member of our Lifting and Handling Division, you will be responsible for supervising staff engineers and overseeing the development and maintenance of a strategic plan, including a capital purchases program.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise staff engineers in the mechanical, structural, electrical, and electronic engineering disciplines.
  • Prepare recommendations for hiring, promotions, transfers, reassignments, recognition, and disciplinary actions.
  • Develop and maintain a strategic plan, including a capital purchases program.
  • Review and approve crane certifications packages prior to presentation to the certifying official.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for technical issues related to the Weight Handling program.
  • Prepare reports identifying and evaluating problems, and recommending immediate corrective alternatives and long-range modifications.
Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Directing and accomplishing work through subordinate employees.
  • Applying engineering principles and practices related to the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of weight handling systems per NAVFAC P-307.
  • Providing expert advice to colleagues, subordinates, and/or the agency.
  • Communicating effectively both orally and in writing, including the preparation and presentation of information to the propulsor community, managers, and technical personnel.
  • Applying knowledge of industrial crane installations, their design and operating conditions, and factors associated with weight handling and material handling equipment.

Applicants must meet the basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management, which include successful completion of a professional engineering degree or current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
