Overview:
As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Patient Care Technician Senior delivers essential patient support under the supervision of nursing professionals, ensuring the safety and comfort of patients.

The Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit at CHRISTUS Health is a specialized 36-bed facility dedicated to the care of patients recovering from cardiac surgeries, including open-heart procedures.

Our unit caters to a diverse range of cardiovascular and thoracic patients, including those who have undergone CABG, heart catheterizations, valve replacements, and thoracotomies, as well as general medical-surgical patients with cardiac histories requiring telemetry monitoring and critical cardiac interventions.

On our unit, we prioritize proactive medical issue detection, empowering our staff to address urgent situations with confidence and efficiency.

Opportunities abound for conducting assessments, educating patients and families, performing IV therapy, managing wound care, analyzing lab values, and administering medications. Our nurse-to-patient ratio averages between 1:3 and 1:6, depending on patient needs.

One of the advantages of working in our unit is the high demand for our services, ensuring that our beds are consistently occupied and staff cancellations are rare.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exemplifies the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Responds to patient requests and assists with daily living activities such as eating, bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility.
  • Monitors patient nutrition by feeding patients and accurately recording their food and fluid intake.
  • Tracks and documents vital signs, including temperature and blood pressure, promptly reporting any changes to nursing staff or physicians.
  • Supports nursing staff in medical procedures and assists with wound care.

Qualifications:
A. Education/Skills: High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
B. Experience: A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience is required; 3 to 5 years is preferred.
C. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: BLS certification is required; National PCT Certification (including Phlebotomy and EKG) is preferred.
