Job Summary

">

The Hospital Medical Leader will oversee the veterinary team at one of our full-service hospitals, providing excellent care to patients and exceptional customer service to their owners. This role requires strong leadership skills, clinical expertise, and a passion for mentoring and coaching veterinarians.

Responsibilities

  • ">
  • Lead hospital veterinarian team and partner with the Hospital Office Manager to provide cohesive leadership">
  • Mentor and coach hospital veterinarians to improve clinical skills, client communication, and teamwork">
  • Ensure strict compliance with state practice act requirements and Petco Medical SOPs">
  • Conduct veterinarian candidate interviewing and onboarding">
  • Create veterinarian schedules and monitor hospital performance">
  • Review P&L monthly reporting and partner with HOM and field leadership to increase revenue growth">
  • Provide excellent patient care by performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and providing preventive care">
  • Document all patient observations, findings, treatments, and diagnoses in the medical record">
  • Perform routine and complex surgical procedures, including spays, neuters, mass removals, and dental cleanings">
  • Develop treatment plans for patients undergoing hospitalization and communicate effectively with referral hospitals and clients">
  • Participate in rounds, disseminate knowledge throughout the team, and perform additional duties as assigned">

Requirements

  • ">
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school">
  • 1-3 years minimum of clinical veterinary experience">
  • Experience mentoring and coaching veterinarians preferred">
  • Active licensure as a veterinarian without contingencies in the state where the hospital is located">
  • Current DEA license and Controlled Substance License, if applicable">
  • USDA Category I Accreditation or completion within two months of hire date">
  • Strong skills performing anesthesia and routine surgeries, including canine and feline spays, neuters, mass removals, and dental cleanings">
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills">
  • Compassionate and sympathetic, with the ability to maintain a professional attitude and demeanor during emotional and stressful situations">
  • Telephone and computer skills">
  • Team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change">

Benefits

Petco offers a competitive salary range of $120,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on location and experience. In addition to a generous compensation package, we offer a comprehensive benefits program, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) matching, and paid time off.

About the Location

">

This position will be based in one of our Vetco Total Care veterinary full-service hospitals, with a majority of job duties conducted in the hospital setting. Position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing for long periods of time. A large amount of this partner's time will be spent in direct contact with clients and their pets.
