Role Summary:
The Senior Pharmacy Supervisor plays a crucial role in guiding, coordinating, and overseeing activities within the Inpatient Pharmacy, particularly concerning the medication-use process and the dispensing of pharmaceuticals as prescribed.
This position involves assigning responsibilities and ensuring the effective use of pharmacy personnel and resources. The role also includes performing pharmacist duties as necessary.
Educational Qualifications:
Candidate must possess a Pharm D from an accredited pharmacy institution. Additionally, the individual should be qualified through education, training, or experience to work with various patient populations, including neonates, infants, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics, as dictated by specialty assignments.
A minimum of 2 years of leadership experience is preferred, or successful completion of an accredited Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency program.
Experience Requirements:
Experience in patient care is essential, typically acquired through an approved pharmacy program.
Licensure and Certification:
Must hold a valid Tennessee Pharmacist License. Additional certifications may be required based on specific assignments.
Key Responsibilities:
The Senior Pharmacy Supervisor will:
- Assist in coordinating daily departmental activities in line with established policies and procedures to ensure efficient pharmacy operations and maintain patient care objectives.
- Review work orders to prioritize tasks and enhance the operational efficiency of the pharmacy in medication processing and distribution.
- Schedule and delegate tasks to staff to ensure adequate service and completion of required duties.
- Oversee personnel activities and serve as a resource for drug distribution, profiling, and pharmacy administration.
- Review medication orders and departmental records to ensure compliance with professional standards and established policies.
- Provide clinical and technical support as needed.
- Collaborate with the Inpatient Pharmacy Director/Manager to facilitate the onboarding and training of new employees.
- Assist in the orientation and supervision of students during their patient care training.

The ideal candidate will possess:
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- In-depth knowledge of drug products, including their uses, side effects, toxicities, and therapeutic ranges.
- The ability to manage a dynamic work environment in response to changing patient needs.

- Strong ability to follow and provide written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with team members and healthcare professionals.

- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and needs.
- Computer proficiency for data entry and retrieval.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions:
This position may require physical activities such as climbing, pushing, standing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, and repetitive motions. Candidates should have good balance and coordination.
The physical requirements include light work, with the ability to exert up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
Close visual acuity is necessary for tasks such as data analysis, transcribing, and extensive reading.
Work conditions are typically similar to those found in general office environments, with minimal exposure to adverse conditions.
