About the Job

We are seeking a highly skilled Highway Maintenance Professional to join our team at the State of Colorado. As a key member of our infrastructure maintenance team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and integrity of Colorado's roadways.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate Heavy Equipment: Safely operate a variety of heavy equipment, including tandem dump trucks, loaders, and tractors, to maintain and repair roadways, bridges, and other infrastructure.
  • Perform Physical Labor: Perform physically demanding tasks, including shoveling, digging, and lifting, to maintain and repair roadways, bridges, and other infrastructure.
  • Remove Debris: Remove debris from roadways, including rock, mud, and deceased animals, to ensure safe travel conditions.
  • Install and Repair Infrastructure: Install and repair guardrail, highway markers, and signs to ensure safe and efficient travel.
  • Perform Routine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks, including filling potholes and roadway cracks, to extend the life of our infrastructure.
  • Ensure Safety: Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.

Requirements
  • Experience: Must have at least two (2) years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience.
  • Commercial Driver's License: Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License Class A or B with no restriction on air brakes that allows operation within Colorado.
  • Background Check: Must pass a pre-employment screening which may include social security number trace, criminal records check, public court records check, educational records, and driving records checks.
  • Availability: Must be willing to report to work during emergencies, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Residency: Must be willing to live within thirty (30) minutes' driving time, under normal weather conditions, of where the work station and/or equipment is located.

Work Environment
  • Physical Demands: Work in a physically demanding environment, with exposure to loud noise, fumes, odors, gasses, dusts, etc. that may affect breathing, eyes, and skin.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: Required to use appropriate personal protective equipment to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Chemical Exposure: Required to work with chemicals and cleaning products, and may be required to use respirators in certain situations.
  • Traffic Exposure: Work near traffic, sometimes high-speed traffic, and may be required to stop or slow traffic in emergency situations.
  • Height Exposure: Use ladders and scissor lifts for heights of approximately 10'-20'.
  • Vehicle Operation: Required to drive CDOT vehicles.
  • Emergency Response: Frequently respond to emergencies outside regular work hours and may work overtime, including weekends and holidays.
  • Weather Exposure: Must be willing and able to work in extreme temperatures (hot and cold), variable weather conditions, and at varying elevations up to 12,000 feet for long periods of time.
