Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Technician to join our Programmatic Operations Support team at Los Alamos National Laboratory. As a Research Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting the experimental testing program, focusing on materials science and engineering, particularly metallurgical processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support to all aspects of the Programmatic Operations Support team, including corrective and preventative maintenance activities, chemical inventory, pressure safety, and salvage.
  • Work alongside experienced technicians to maintain various maintenance systems, using maintenance manuals and/or diagrams.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure seamless execution of maintenance tasks and projects.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of technical concepts and designs related to materials science and engineering.
  • Ensure compliance with Laboratory policy and procedures, including safety and security protocols.
Requirements
  • Basic interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of personnel and customers.
  • Understanding of technical concepts and designs, with a focus on materials science and engineering.
  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment, exhibiting collaborative behavior and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to follow work instructions, safeguards, and security procedures in accordance with Laboratory policy.
  • Experience working in a highly regulated, safety-focused environment, with a strong understanding of Integrated Work Documents (IWDs) and checklists.
  • Basic understanding of common applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to obtain a Q-clearance, which typically requires US citizenship.
Desired Qualifications
  • Basic knowledge/experience performing corrective and preventative maintenance.
  • Experience working with data entry regarding basic maintenance input.
  • Basic knowledge of tools and supporting equipment.
  • Experience working to a schedule and preventative maintenance plans.
  • Familiarity with theory of operation on electrical and mechanical systems and basic supporting subsystems.
  • Active DOE Q clearance.
