Job Title: Principal Opto-Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary:

The Principal Opto-Mechanical Engineer will play a key role in supporting R&D, new product development, and production within the R&D/Optics group. This individual will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to design, build, and test optical mounting structures, alignment mechanisms, and housings. They will be responsible for reliability modeling and testing with respect to optical components and assemblies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop optical mounting structures, alignment mechanisms, and housings using CAD software.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, manufacturing, and optical engineers on joint design efforts.
  • Perform reliability modeling and testing of optical components and assemblies.
  • Develop and present design reviews and computational analyses.
  • Support the development of custom test/assembly fixtures and product design.
  • Drive process improvement within product development and manufacturing.
  • Research novel technologies and develop relationships with potential vendors.
  • Document BOMs, assembly instructions, and work procedures.

Requirements:

  • Minimum BS in Mechanical/Optical Engineering, with experience in related work areas.
  • Preferred minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Proficient with mechanical design using CAD (SolidWorks and PDM a plus).
  • GD&T experience and proficiency with tolerance analyses.
  • Ability to perform reliability modeling such as thermal and shock simulation analyses.
  • Experience with injection molded parts and 3D printing.
  • Hands-on experience with optical alignment, metrology, and prototype builds.
  • Preferred experience with OpticsStudio/OpticsBuilder.
  • Experience with optical mounting, alignment, and stray light.
  • Strong problem-solving and statistical analysis skills.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to communicate ideas and concepts within a group.
