Position Summary:

The Principal Opto-Mechanical Engineer will support R&D, new product development and production while directly reporting to the R&D/Optics group.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Subject matter expert on optical mounting and alignment for consumer products.
  2. Work with Mechanical, Manufacturing and Optical Engineers on joint design efforts.
  3. Design, tolerance and simulate mounting structures, alignment mechanisms and housings.
  4. Specify and perform shock/vibe and thermal simulations and testing.
  5. Support the design, modelling and testing of stray light mitigation.
  6. Develop and present design reviews and computational analyses.
  7. Support the development of custom test/assembly fixtures and product design.
  8. Drive process improvement within product development and manufacturing.
  9. Research novel technologies and develop relationships with potential vendors.
  10. Document BOMs, assembly instructions and work procedures.
  11. Design, build, and test head-mounted prototype systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum BS in Mechanical/Optical Engineering, with experience in related work areas. Preferred minimum 5 years of experience. Proficient with mechanical design using CAD (SolidWorks and PDM a plus). GD&T experience and proficiency with tolerance analyses. Ability to perform reliability modelling such as thermal and shock simulation analyses. Experience with injection molded parts and 3D printing. Hands on experience with optical alignment, metrology and prototype builds. Preferred experience with OpticsStudio/OpticsBuilder. Experience with optical mounting, alignment and stray light. Strong problem solving and statistical analysis skills. Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team. Ability to communicate ideas and concepts within a group.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not involve direct supervisory responsibilities.

Travel:

Including international travel up to 25% is possible.

Physical Demands:

Frequently required to sit, speak, hear, see, and perform repetitive motion (data entry). Occasionally required to lift or carry (10 lb. minimum). Reasonable accommodation will be made if possible.
