Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief of Staff to join our team at Apellis Pharmaceuticals. As a key advisor to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), this role will play a critical part in setting and delivering the overarching Medical Affairs strategic plan.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate and manage a broad range of projects to support attainment of strategic priorities and corporate goals.
  • Assist the CMO and Medical Leadership team in developing and communicating medical affairs strategy and its components internally and externally.
  • Work with the leadership team to develop goals, monitor progress, and report on key performance indicators.
  • Lead CMO-LT meetings, town halls, and support team structure, development, and engagement discussions.
  • Design and execute initiatives for cohesion, ensuring alignment and engagement among teams and departments.
  • Support the CMO in preparing annual budget planning and managing the annual operating cycle.
  • Develop and prepare executive-level presentations for internal and external meetings.
  • Support the CMO and PV team in safety case management, adjudication, and reconciliation.
  • Represent the CMO and Medical Strategy and Evidence Generation on the Portfolio Strategy Leadership Team.
  • Identify and prioritize key issues, and expedite resolution by integrating information, analysis, and evaluation.
Requirements
  • Ph.D., PharmD, or other advanced scientific degree with a minimum of 10+ years of operating experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Extensive background in Medical Affairs or broad knowledge about drug development and commercialization.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with executive leadership and important external stakeholders.
  • High EQ with ability to earn the respect and trust of the CMO, leadership, and cross-functional colleagues.
  • Highly skilled at communicating scientific and clinical information within the drug development environment.
