We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Junior Cost Estimator to join our dynamic team. Our Heavy Highway Division in the Dallas/Fort Worth area is looking for innovative, team-oriented, and results-driven candidates who are enthusiastic about learning and contributing to our clients' success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the comprehensive estimating process for assigned bids/projects.
  • Analyze proposal specifications and drawings, and participate in pre-bid meetings to ascertain the scope of work and necessary components of the estimate.
  • Conduct Risk and Contract Management tasks as needed, integrating historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, and productivity analysis into unit and man-hour calculations.
  • Generate detailed estimates by performing complete takeoffs of the project scope.
  • Engage with clients, vendors, and other stakeholders to discuss and refine estimates while addressing any issues that arise.
  • Evaluate design alternatives and suggest optimal solutions based on cost, engineering quality, and material availability.
  • Acquire knowledge of project requirements and relevant regulations to ensure compliance with affirmative action and DBE standards, while reviewing subcontractor work lists.
  • Finalize estimates and apply strategic cost factors when necessary.
  • Prepare bids, select vendors and/or subcontractors, and assess the cost-effectiveness of potential projects.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited institution is mandatory.
  • Prior experience in heavy civil estimating is advantageous.
  • Exceptional attention to detail is essential.
  • Ability to visualize the completed project from provided drawings and documents.
  • Familiarity with construction processes and terminology is required.
  • Strong foundational mathematical skills are necessary.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic team player with a willingness to collaborate and embrace new ideas.
  • Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Heavy Bid estimating, project scheduling software (such as MS Project or Primavera), and databases is a plus.
