Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Protection Engineer EIT to join our team at Clark Nexsen. As a Fire Protection Engineer EIT, you will be responsible for performing fire protection engineering services on multi-discipline building design projects of small to large scope for commercial and government facilities, as well as single discipline fire protection engineering projects of small to large scope.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performing various aspects of fire protection design, including conceptual studies, program requirements, design analyses, calculations, systems selection and layout for building design
  • Preparation of programming documents, schematic documents, design development documents, and construction documents
  • Coordination and communication with design team members to ensure the fire protection design details integrate properly with the work of all other project disciplines
  • Preparation of marketing and presentation materials
  • Performing various services associated with the bidding process, including preparing addenda and amendments and opening and tabulating bids
  • Performing various services associated with the construction phase, including field visits, answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings
  • Complying with quality control policies and procedures
  • Learn and implement department and company standards
  • Develop analysis and design skills
  • Participating in team meetings and coordinating efforts with other team members
Project Responsibilities
  • Perform Fire Protection Engineer or Senior Fire Protection Engineer tasks as directed
  • Responsible for document organization and clarity
  • Responsible for discipline drawing coordination
  • Completing sections and details produced to a schematic-level of completion by the fire protection Engineer
  • Creating schematic-level fire protection systems design for projects of low to moderate complexity
  • Assist in development of an accurate, three-dimensional model of the structure with the necessary level of detail using the required Building Information Modeling (BIM) software package, when BIM is a project requirement
  • Develop design options for resolution of system conflicts
  • Assist with building systems calculations and LEED templates
  • Participate in building system selections
  • Participate in building code analysis process
  • Participate in development of discipline specifications
  • Coordinating work product with other disciplines
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering from an ABET accredited university or a post-graduate degree in Fire Protection Engineering
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination
  • Pursuing Professional Engineer licensure (PE) within 48 months of being hired
  • Understanding of sustainable design principles and design practices and pursuing LEED AP accreditation is desirable
  • Additional certifications such as CDT, CCS, or CCCA are encouraged to reflect personal growth in the profession and an ever increasing knowledge base to enhance the design and documentation process
Preferred Qualifications
  • Up to 4 years of specific, post-graduation, fire protection engineering experience that includes experience with code analysis, design calculations, coordination with other design team members, and experience in responding to construction phase queries and submittals
  • Successful completion of at least one student internship is desirable
  • Prior experience in an Engineering or multi-discipline Architectural & Engineering firm is desirable
  • Experience and a working knowledge of applicable building codes and standards

Physical Requirements

The work is sedentary and often performed in an office setting. Work area is lighted, heated, and ventilated. This position may require extended periods of standing, sitting, as well as some repetitive movements, bending and lifting of minimal weight.
