The primary function of the Systems Engineer is to oversee and enhance the IT infrastructure across various locations. This encompasses the implementation, testing, and support of server, storage, and network computing requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning:

  • Collaborate with IT personnel to develop tactical and strategic initiatives ensuring that infrastructure (network, server, storage) capabilities align with current and future demands.
  • Assist in formulating an enterprise architectural strategy for the overall logical and technical infrastructure across all sites.
  • Support the creation and execution of an infrastructure capacity strategy.

Acquisition and Deployment:

  • Plan, procure, and manage the installation of corporate and remote hardware and software products, including upgrades and services for the organization's network.
  • Engage with vendors, outsourcing partners, and contractors to secure optimal pricing and service agreements.

Operational Oversight:

  • Ensure the effective performance and operation of servers, including email, print, backup, application, and database servers along with their respective operating systems and software.
  • Oversee the effectiveness of security measures, including firewalls, antivirus solutions, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for all systems and services.
  • Continuously assess new technology platforms to enhance organizational strategies, cost efficiency, and infrastructure adaptability. Participate in projects aimed at evaluating technologies and methods to support organizational objectives and efficiencies.
  • Establish best practices and policies for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end-user workstation hardware, software, and peripherals.
  • Provide advanced support for both custom and commercially available software and hardware.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  • Track and establish service level agreements with end users.

Position Requirements:

Knowledge and Experience:

  • A minimum of seven years of experience in a mid to large-scale enterprise.
  • Dedication to exceptional customer service and the ability to build rapport with users.
  • Experience in manufacturing and shop floor environments is advantageous.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting hardware including servers, storage, routers, switches, and network interface cards.
  • Experience with designing, configuring, and monitoring VMware ESX server products in a multi-server, multi-site context.
  • Proficient in managing and configuring enterprise-wide network concepts such as TCP/IP protocols, switching and routing, LANs, WANs, WLANs, and VPNs.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of server and PC operating systems, including:
    • Microsoft Windows and Windows Server
    • Microsoft Active Directory (including topology design, replication, and group policy configuration)
    • Microsoft Exchange
    • O365
    • SharePoint Online
    • HP-UX and/or Linux experience is beneficial
    • Experience with configuring, installing, and monitoring storage area networking (SAN) hardware and software.
    • Basic administration skills with Microsoft SQL Server database software are a plus.
    • Awareness of applicable data privacy practices and regulations.
