Job Summary:
As a Laboratory Assistant at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in supporting the receipt, processing, testing, delivery, and distribution of lab results. Your responsibilities will include performing a variety of laboratory procedures, such as phlebotomy, capillary puncture, and specimen collection processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure patient safety by following established procedures for patient identification, specimen collection, and labeling.
- Process incoming specimens, assess their integrity, and prepare them for transport as required.
- Perform waived and moderate complexity testing according to established laboratory procedures.
- Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for waived and moderate complexity testing.
- Communicate and document results, including alert values, to clinical staff.
- Perform maintenance on equipment and be responsible for equipment startup and shutdown.
- Answer and assist with routine telephone inquiries in a courteous and professional manner.
- Successfully complete the required laboratory orientation, training, competencies, and ongoing education as assigned.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of specimen collection processes.
- Proficiency with computer systems and multiple software programs as required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
