POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Oversee and uphold the standard loan portfolio methodologies, protocols, and practices within the designated team, encompassing credit risk, interest rate risk, liquidity risk, price risk, transaction risk, foreign exchange risk, compliance risk, strategic risk, and reputational risk.
  • Mitigate risk and pinpoint issues in SBA loan applications and credit processing to enhance revenue while ensuring secure and sound loans for profitability and expansion.
  • Support the Team Leader in managing the credit and risk quality of the team's portfolio, including approving items, transactions, and requests in the Team Leader's absence, subject to appropriate delegation of authority.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Underwriting (60%):

  • Evaluate applicants' financial standing, creditworthiness, and property assessments to ascertain the viability of loan approvals and prepare comprehensive credit analyses for each transaction.
  • Underwrite various types of commercial loans by scrutinizing corporate and personal financials, conducting borrower and industry due diligence, completing AML/KYC requirements, and drafting credit memoranda.
  • Examine loan packages and assess credit information, providing a detailed evaluation of applicants' creditworthiness.
  • Track and monitor loan activities, ensuring compliance with loan conditions, including the collection of financial statements and conducting Credit Reviews.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, loan processing, appraisal, and relevant departments to provide necessary support.

Portfolio Management (40%):

  • Supervise and sustain the overall loan portfolio methodologies, protocols, and practices to assist the Team Leader.
  • Engage with the Team Leader on specific initiatives, including portfolio assessments, updates to credit processes, and risk rating policies.
  • Analyze and consolidate market, industry, and risk data to develop SBA loan portfolios within specialized industries and segments.
  • Evaluate and review SBA loan portfolios, measurement indices, and contribute insights within specialized industries and segments.
  • Collaborate with origination and product specialists to refine credit strategies and formulate proactive plans for all assigned portfolios.
  • Independently assess and evaluate risks within the segment, conduct risk selection, oversee individual loan risks, ensure quality in loan approvals, and manage loan performance.
  • Identify and minimize risks associated with complex SBA loans by adhering to operational standards, recognizing suspicious activities, notifying relevant parties, and taking necessary actions.
  • Conduct credit risk assessments, portfolio stress tests, and analyze collateral as applicable to loan structures and terms.
  • Facilitate loan terminations, ensuring understanding, compliance, and completion among internal and external parties.
  • Lead remedial credit management and analysis of structured transactions.
  • Prepare regular reports and offer pertinent recommendations.
  • Assist the Team Leader in mentoring junior Loan Portfolio Officers in identifying problems, managing risks, and enhancing their skills.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete all mandatory training related to Bank's and BSA compliance, as well as other applicable laws and regulations in a timely manner.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or a related business field is preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience with SBA loans is preferred.
  • Proficient in analyzing, underwriting, and managing SBA loan portfolios.
  • Strong skills in credit and financial analysis, underwriting, sales, customer service, and communication.
  • Working knowledge of commercial and industrial lending guidelines and regulations at both state and federal levels.
  • Ability to analyze and consolidate data to develop SBA loan portfolio methodologies and implement practices.
  • Capability to independently negotiate substantial loan contracts and enhance asset quality.
  • Proficient in utilizing software programs for evaluating financial information and maintaining loan records.
  • Formal credit training and CFA or related certification is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Minimum mobility to work in an office environment; ability to sit for extended periods; operate office equipment including a computer keyboard; and reach with hands and arms. Employees may occasionally be required to walk, stand, and lift documents weighing 30 pounds or less.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, communication, interpersonal, self-motivation, and analytical skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and staff.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Standard office environment with an average noise level. Hearing ability in the normal audio range with or without correction. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

COMPENSATION:

The base pay range for this position is USD $65,000.00/Yr. - USD $125,000.00/Yr plus comprehensive benefits. The exact offer will be determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
