Position Overview

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) plays a pivotal role in the healthcare team, specializing in the administration of anesthesia and the vigilant monitoring of patients throughout surgical and medical procedures. With their advanced training, CRNAs are proficient in critical care and airway management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts thorough pre-anesthetic assessments and evaluations of patients.
  • Ensures accurate patient identification and gathers comprehensive health histories.
  • Recommends and assesses necessary diagnostic tests.
  • Records detailed pre-anesthetic evaluations.
  • Secures informed consent for anesthesia procedures.
  • Selects, prepares, and administers anesthetic agents as part of anesthetic management.
  • Communicates any changes in the patient's condition to the anesthesiologist or surgeon.
  • Administers anesthesia during induction, maintenance, and emergence phases, along with post-anesthesia care.
  • Inserts invasive lines and catheters as required.
  • Performs tracheal intubation and extubation, ensuring effective airway management.
  • Provides mechanical ventilation support.
  • Conducts venous and arterial punctures for blood sampling.
  • Manages regional anesthesia techniques and patient fluid, blood, and electrolyte balance.
  • Utilizes current standards for perianesthetic monitoring, both invasive and non-invasive.
  • Identifies and addresses cardiac dysrhythmias through perianesthetic ECG monitoring.
  • Evaluates patient recovery from anesthesia and administers necessary pharmacological or supportive treatments.
  • Conducts post-anesthesia follow-ups, documenting patient responses and potential complications.
  • Maintains cleanliness and sterilization of equipment, reporting any necessary repairs.
  • May engage in patient care activities to uphold clinical skills and competencies.

Qualifications

  • Expertise in airway management and chronic pain management techniques.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Thorough understanding of contemporary anesthesia practices.
  • Strong patient assessment capabilities.
  • Proficient in both oral and written communication, customer service, and adaptability.
  • Familiarity with word processing and PC applications.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a related field.
  • Graduate of an accredited nurse anesthesia program.
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a CRNA in an acute care environment.
  • Active RN License is mandatory.
  • Preferred: Valid state APRN Recognition.
  • Certification as a CRNA is required.
  • ACLS and BLS certifications are necessary.
