Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Communication Specialist to join our team at Boston MedFlight. As a key member of our critical care transport team, you will be responsible for facilitating all aspects of patient transport by air and ground.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive and effective communication services to ensure safe and efficient patient transport.
  • Uphold and adhere to all Boston MedFlight policies and procedures, as well as general operating protocols.
  • Coordinate all requests for transportation by air and ground, serving as the primary communication link between medical teams, referring and receiving facilities/agencies, pilots, and physicians.
  • Maintain positive interaction with fellow employees, consortium hospitals, and referring agencies.
  • Complete documentation (written and electronic) per BMF policy.
  • Operate all radios and computerized dispatch programs.
  • Monitor weather, flight following systems, and all other communication equipment associated with MedFlight transports, missions, and related activities.
  • Responsible for remote monitoring of all base-site locations, helipads, and hangars.
  • Maintain skill proficiency and knowledge base.
  • Attend required staff and educational meetings.
  • Assist in orientation and training of new department personnel as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Previous EMS and dispatch experience required, preferably at least 2 years' experience as a communication specialist/dispatcher in 911 and/or high-volume departments.
  • BLS certification and obtain either Massachusetts EMT-B or National Registry EMT-B within one year of hire to maintain employment.
  • Obtain Flight Communicator Certification (IAMTCS) within 18 months of hire.
  • Class III employment physical required.
  • Excellent telephone communication skills and ability to work independently and interdependently.
  • Ability to work in often stressful situations and take direction.
  • Maintain certifications and continuing education criteria as mandated by the position.
  • Basic computer data entry skills and knowledge of Computerized Aided Dispatch systems and Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Understanding of radio communications and ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language without restriction.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, which rotate to include day, night, and weekend coverage.
