Job Summary

We're seeking a skilled Navigation Software Engineer to join our Lunar Permanence team. As a key member of our team, you'll contribute to the development of on-board navigation software for our crewed and uncrewed lunar vehicles. Your expertise will help us achieve our mission of establishing a sustainable human presence on the lunar surface.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and deploy optimal state estimation algorithms for inertial or relative navigation.
  • Contribute to the development and deployment of embedded navigation software, including sensor interfaces and telemetry management.
  • Verify navigation software implementation through open-loop and closed-loop Monte Carlo analysis, as well as unit testing.
  • Collaborate in the development, implementation, and test of navigation algorithms for various phases of flight.
  • Implement processor-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, and hardware-in-the-loop testing, on-vehicle functional testing, and flight testing.
  • Develop and execute component-level navigation test programs, including sensor characterization, sensor modeling, and integrated on-vehicle testing.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering or a related field, plus a Master's degree or equivalent.
  • Operational knowledge of state estimation algorithms and Kalman filters for navigation.
  • Experience with build systems, version control, and testing methodologies.
  • Strong software development and design skills, with emphasis on C++ and Simulink/MATLAB.
  • Operational knowledge of inertial and relative navigation sensors.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in aerospace engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in the development, implementation, and test of navigation algorithms for spacecraft navigation.
  • Experience or research with hardware and software integration and testing, including experience with sensor device drivers and I/O.
  • Experience in verification and test of embedded software and systems.
