Research Scientist Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our interdisciplinary research team at the University of Mississippi. The successful candidate will work on providing tools for improving community resilience to floods due to levee breaches.
ResponsibilitiesThe candidate's responsibilities will include:
- Using and/or developing numerical codes to simulate soil-water-structure interactions
- Developing machine learning algorithms for flood simulation
- Using inundation models to simulate the propagation of floods caused by levee breaches
- Performing geotechnical lab experiments, including flume tests if needed
- Mentorship of graduate and undergraduate students
- Preparing research results and writing grant reports, as well as manuscripts for publication
- Assisting with grant writing
A Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a related field is required. The successful candidate should have a strong computational background and a track record of successful research. Good communication skills are also essential.
