Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Arts Administration Manager to join our team at the City of Hampton, VA. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and creative environment, managing the day-to-day operations of our arts and cultural programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage guest services and front-of-house operations at The American Theatre to ensure a positive experience for patrons.
  • Supervise part-time and volunteer event staff, ensuring they are equipped to provide excellent service.
  • Coordinate volunteer prospects and needs across the department, working closely with the Assistant Education Manager.
  • Establish and update protocols and procedures in coordination with the Artistic Director and Assistant Director - Operations and Events.
  • Manage performance and rental contracts for The American Theatre and Charles Taylor Visual Arts Center, ensuring all contracts are fully executed and terms are fulfilled.
  • Assist the Artistic Director with the needs and department activities of the Hampton Arts Foundation, including annual fund letters, gala planning, and meeting minutes.
  • Prepare minutes and meeting follow-up correspondence for Hampton's Commission on the Arts, coordinate the School Grant Program, and post meeting calendars, agendas, and minutes on the Civic Plus website.
  • Manage administrative functions for venues and programs, including educational, performing, and visual activities.
  • Coordinate with production and operations staff for setups for special events, classes, programs, and activities.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Arts Education, Arts Administration, Fine Arts, Recreation, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in one or more of the primary cultural areas, including arts and culture services, performing art, theatre, music, visual arts, or arts education, and a minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to foster and maintain effective working relationships with diverse populations.
  • Ability to evaluate and respond to demands of the industry and prioritize and handle multiple assignments.
  • Must successfully complete and be certified in Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management (TEAM) training within six (6) months of employment.
  • Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license and have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.
  • Must successfully pass a background check related to this position.
