Early Childhood Education Assistant

About the Role:

This is a non-exempt position that assists early childhood teachers in the education, care, supervision, and instruction of pre-school aged children in a classroom or playground environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist teachers in implementing play-oriented instructional activities and assessing the needs of individual students.
  • Conduct informal reading and project circles with individual and small groups of children.
  • Support teachers with demonstrations of assigned subject matter and assist with presentations.
  • Balance children's physical needs, emotional support, and deal with common behavior problems.
  • Perform work indoors and outdoors in a classroom or playground environment engaged in work of a moderately active nature.

Requirements:

  • Requires completion of a GED/High School diploma within 6 months of hire and a completion of CDA or equivalent in early childhood education within two (2) years of hire.
  • Requires pediatric First Aid/CPR certification, Health Clearance, TB Test, and a food handlers card within 3 weeks of hire.
  • Requires basic knowledge of the principles and practices of age appropriate early child development applicable for an educational setting.
  • Requires a basic knowledge of instruction methods for preschool-aged children and basic clerical and record keeping processes.
  • Requires sufficient human relation skills to work productively and cooperatively with teachers, students, and parents.
