Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough reviews and inspections of zoning regulations, nuisance ordinances, signage, and related codes applicable within the jurisdiction.
  • Collaborate closely with Building Department Inspectors and other municipal officials to address regulatory obligations and zoning matters.
  • Enhance understanding of the land development process through effective communication and dissemination of technical information regarding zoning laws.
  • Inspect commercial and residential properties to verify compliance with various ordinances and codes.
  • Interpret and assess engineering plans, plot plans, and related documentation for adherence to sign design permits and construction regulations.
  • Review applications for various licenses and permits, including but not limited to fencing, signage, and special permits.
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of the Massachusetts State Sanitary Code, Massachusetts General Law, and relevant building codes and city ordinances.
  • Provide legal insights on non-conforming structures and uses utilizing city data and resources.
  • Investigate complaints and gather evidence to issue corrective orders or assist in legal proceedings for compliance enforcement.
  • Attend Board of Appeals meetings and Public Hearings as required.

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to express ideas clearly.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with inspectors and the public.
  • Experience in technical trades, municipal planning, real estate, or building inspections is preferred.
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, with coursework related to zoning laws, environmental sanitation, or city planning.

Perform related duties as assigned.
