We are currently seeking a Composite Design Engineer, who will take charge of the design and development of a variety of composite products, with a primary focus on radomes for airborne applications.

This role encompasses material selection, structural design, tooling design coordination, process development oversight, and environmental testing management. Collaboration with electrical and manufacturing engineers will be essential to support various projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Design Responsibilities

  • Develops or oversees the design of composite structures to fulfill customer requirements.
  • Acts as the lead engineer on development initiatives, ensuring task assignments, schedule adherence, and budget compliance.
  • Provides support to team members throughout the design process.
  • Creates statements of work, liaises with vendors, and evaluates outcomes for structural analysis, subcontracted tooling, and environmental testing.
  • Engages with clients to address inquiries, deliver presentations, and provide product application insights while supporting program managers.

Business Development and Proposals

  • Aids Business Development by offering technical knowledge during customer interactions.
  • Contributes to proposal development and cost estimation for design and development projects.
  • Prepares proposals, including design concepts and technical approach documentation for management and clients.

Operational Support

  • Offers engineering assistance to operations for root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Participates in Material Review Board (MRB) activities and addresses discrepancies in materials.

QUALIFICATION CRITERIA

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or equivalent four-year college program.
  • At least ten years of experience as a Design Engineer in a composites-focused capacity; a graduate degree in Materials Engineering or a related field may substitute for some experience.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and finite element modeling.
  • Familiarity with mechanical and environmental testing for flight qualification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering with coursework in Composites, or a Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • Ten years of experience as a Design Engineer in the Aerospace or Defense sector, focusing on composite structures.
  • Knowledge of various composite structures utilized in radomes.
  • Experience in preparing proposals, including technical sections and cost estimates.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (Solidworks or CATIA preferred).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Role involves sitting, standing, and/or walking.
  • Requires the ability to frequently exert up to 10 pounds of force to move objects and occasionally up to 20 pounds.
  • The work environment typically has a moderate noise level; ear protection may be required at times.
  • Work is generally performed in an air-conditioned office and factory setting.
