Position Overview

Meggitt Baltimore stands at the forefront of Antenna and Radome innovations for Electronic Warfare (EW) applications.

With a legacy of excellence since 1965, we have consistently delivered cutting-edge designs capable of withstanding the harshest conditions.

We are currently seeking a Composite Design Engineer who will take charge of the design and development of diverse composite products, focusing primarily on radomes tailored for airborne applications. This role encompasses material selection, structural design, tooling design coordination, process development oversight, and environmental testing management. Collaboration with electrical and manufacturing engineers will be essential to support various projects.

Key Responsibilities

Design Responsibilities

  • Develops or directs the design of composite structures in alignment with customer requirements.
  • Acts as the principal engineer on development initiatives, ensuring task assignments, schedule adherence, and budget compliance.
  • Provides support to team members throughout the design process.
  • Creates statements of work, liaises with vendors, and evaluates outcomes for structural analysis, subcontracted tooling, and environmental testing.
  • Engages with clients to address inquiries, deliver presentations, provide product application information, and assist program managers.

Business Development Support

  • Aids Business Development by offering technical insights during customer engagements.
  • Contributes to proposal development and cost estimation for design and development projects.
  • Prepares proposals, including design concepts and technical approach narratives for management and clients.

Operational Support

  • Offers engineering assistance to operations for root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives.
  • Participates in Material Review Board (MRB) activities and resolves issues with non-conforming materials.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or equivalent four-year college program.
  • At least ten years of experience as a Design Engineer in a composites-centric role; a graduate degree in Materials Engineering or a related field may substitute for years of experience.
  • Proficient in structural analysis and finite element modeling.
  • Familiarity with mechanical and environmental testing for flight qualification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering with a focus on Composites or a Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • Ten years of experience as a Design Engineer in the Aerospace or Defense sector, specializing in composite structures.
  • Knowledge of various composite structures utilized in radomes.
  • Experience in preparing proposals, including technical sections and cost estimates.
  • Proficient in CAD software (Solidworks or CATIA preferred).

Physical Requirements

  • Role involves sitting, standing, and/or walking.
  • Requires the ability to frequently exert up to 10 pounds of force to move objects and occasionally up to 20 pounds.
  • Work environment typically has a moderate noise level; ear protection may be required occasionally.
  • Duties are performed in an air-conditioned office and factory setting.
