**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a skilled Client Service Specialist to join our team at The University of Chicago Medicine in the Anatomic Pathology department. As a key member of our outreach collection facilities, you will provide high-quality service to laboratory clients, physicians, and staff in a fast-paced environment.

This role is responsible for performing accessioning of consultation and referral materials, supporting transfer of patient care to UCM or providing secondary opinions to Outreach clients. You will also be involved in sending back patient materials to originating facilities and coordinating/mailing of referral tests to external labs and triage of specimens to in-house laboratories.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to handle multiple client contacts per day. A strong knowledge of laboratory information systems, automated and conventional laboratory equipment, and specimen preparation procedures is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client contact via phone, email, live chat, or fax
  • Specimen receipt, assessment, quality assurance, and pre-analytical processing services
  • Verification of missing information, activating a specimen rejection process as per written policies and procedures
  • Receiving specimens and requisitions for test ordering, entering orders into laboratory computer system
  • Generating appropriate specimen collection labels, directing samples to appropriate laboratory sections

Requirements:

  • Associates degree in clinical laboratory science, life sciences, or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Knowledge and ability to appropriately handle and prepare a variety of laboratory specimen types
  • Knowledge and ability to use laboratory/hospitals information systems
  • Must support the mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives of the organization and demonstrate a commitment to quality service to patients, physicians, the public, and co-workers

Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on experience.
