Job Summary:

The Department of Campus Recreation at Penn State University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Swim Instructor to join our team. As a Swim Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching group and private swim lessons to students of various ages, skill levels, and abilities. You will also be expected to maintain a safe and engaging learning environment, communicate effectively with participants and their parents, and adhere to the American Red Cross standards and certification requirements.

Responsibilities:

• Teach group and private swim lessons to students of various ages, skill levels, and abilities
• Maintain a safe and engaging learning environment
• Communicate effectively with participants and their parents
• Adhere to the American Red Cross standards and certification requirements
• Complete necessary paperwork and communicate regularly with participants and their parents
• Manage disagreements and model positive rapport with patrons
• Arrive on time for all assigned shifts or secure appropriate coverage
• Remain calm in stressful and/or emergency situations
• Maintain regular and frequent communication with supervisory team

Requirements:

• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or Basic Water Safety Instructor certification
• American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification
• Completion of Penn State University Bloodborne Pathogens training
• Both criminal and FBI background checks
• Ability to work a variable schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
