The following information outlines the responsibilities and requirements for this position. It does not encompass all tasks that may be expected, nor does it address the performance standards that must be upheld.
Position Summary:
Support the Lead Landscaper in ensuring the effective and precise management of all grounds and facilities owned by the Port.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute groundskeeping and facility maintenance tasks as directed by the lead.
- Utilize pesticides to eliminate pests from the grounds.
- Administer fertilizers to promote healthy growth.
- Employ weed control products and other chemicals to maintain the aesthetic appeal of Port properties.
- Mow lawns using various equipment, including hand mowers, riding mowers, or larger tractors.
- Trim and edge lawns around pathways, flower beds, and walls using appropriate tools.
- Engage in planting activities for flowers, grass, shrubs, and bushes.
- Clear snow from walkways and apply ice melt as necessary.
- Remove debris from walkways or utilize a leaf blower.
- Prune shrubs and manage weed growth.
- Rake, mulch, and prune as required to maintain grounds.
- Water plants and grass according to their needs.
- Oversee irrigation systems, including winterization and spring activation.
- Arrange tables and chairs for meetings as instructed by administration.
- Decorate and maintain holiday decorations throughout Port facilities.
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of general landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and blowers.
- Strong organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
- Capability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including cold, wet, hot, and windy environments.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, including bending, stooping, and reaching.
- Possession of a valid driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and proof of current vehicle insurance.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Possession of an applicator's license for herbicides and pesticides is necessary.
Working Conditions:
Work involves both independent and collaborative tasks, operation of heavy equipment, outdoor work in varying weather conditions, and frequent interruptions. The role may require working in environments with fumes, temperature fluctuations, noise, chemicals, poor ventilation, dirt, dust, and extreme weather conditions.
