Job Description: Senior Counsel - Litigation

As a Senior Counsel - Litigation, you will play a critical role in supporting the Legal Department by managing litigation, investigations, and cases, as well as conducting legal research and analysis. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing healthcare-related and general liability litigation
  • Reviewing and investigating internally reported claims
  • Performing initial witness interviews
  • Collecting and reviewing records
  • Implementing systems and procedures for litigation and claims management
  • Maintaining up-to-date reporting on the status of ongoing and potential litigation
  • Reviewing third-party requests for records
  • Assisting in the selection of local litigation counsel
  • Assisting in case strategy
  • Attending mediations, arbitrations, and case status conferences
  • Initiating and managing collection activities
  • Reviewing and revising compliance and risk management policies
  • Assisting with regulatory and compliance projects as needed
  • Reviewing and revising contracts as needed
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Juris Doctorate degree with admission to the State Bar of Texas
  • A minimum of 2 years of litigation experience, with experience in long-term care or healthcare-related litigation preferred
  • Experience leading mediations, depositions, witness preparations, contested judicial hearings, and trials
  • Experience in litigation-related investigations
  • Experience preparing discovery responses, court filings, and exhibits
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to develop a positive rapport with employees and outside vendors
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
Skills and Knowledge Requirements

You will need to possess:

  • Detailed knowledge of the civil litigation process and discovery rules
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail
  • Demonstrated high-level organizational skills, with a proven ability to handle multiple priorities and take initiative to resolve issues
  • Demonstrated exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including strong spelling, grammatical, and mathematical skills
  • High degree of professionalism and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and develop proactive planning for the upcoming week
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion and demonstrate the highest level of client service and response
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
