Job Title: Medical Assistant - Patient Care Specialist

WellSpan Health Services is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant - Patient Care Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.

Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant - Patient Care Specialist will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and support in a fast-paced clinical environment. This includes obtaining and documenting patient vital signs, collecting specimens, preparing patients for procedures, and administering medications under the supervision of a licensed nurse or provider.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Obtain and document patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, weight, BMI, respirations, and pulse.
  • Collect specimens as directed by the provider, using appropriate equipment and protocols for specimen collection, processing, handling, and storage.
  • Prepare patients for scheduled procedures by ensuring they are appropriately gowned and instruments and supplies are set up.
  • Administer medications under the supervision of a licensed nurse or provider, as permitted by law and according to established protocols.
  • Provide patient education and instructions, as directed by the provider, to promote patient understanding and self-management of their care.
  • Assist with daily patient flow, prioritizing tasks and activities delegated by the care team to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including documentation of patient interactions, medications, and test results.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of office workflows that support patient-centered care.
Requirements:
  • Certificate of completion from an accredited Medical Assistant program (Diploma) or National Medical Assistant Certification upon hire required.
  • Basic Life Support certification upon hire required.
  • Proficient communication skills, including SBAR technique.
  • Ability to effectively present clinical information to the care team.
  • Proficient in navigating and entering information into an electronic health record.
  • Models teamwork and self-motivation.
