Position Title: Research Project Coordinator

Employment Status: Part-Time (20 hours/week)


Position Summary

The Foundation for Atlanta Veterans Education and Research, Inc. is in search of a dedicated Research Project Coordinator to support Dr. Erica Duncan's research team within the VA Mental Health Department.

The selected candidate will assist the Principal Investigator in managing daily operations for multiple research initiatives, which includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Conducting clinical research coordination tasks, such as participant recruitment, informed consent, screening, and medical record evaluations.
  2. Collaborating closely with the Principal Investigator to organize all research coordination activities and processes.
  3. Breaking down project tasks and delegating them to the appropriate team members.
  4. Serving as the primary contact for research activities across various sites.
  5. Managing the project budget and ensuring all expenditures align with financial guidelines.
  6. Monitoring project progress to ensure adherence to timelines and objectives.
  7. Assisting with Institutional Review Board (IRB) and regulatory documentation as required.
  8. Ensuring compliance with research protocols by reviewing case report forms and auditing for accuracy against source documents.
  9. Documenting all research project processes and standard operating procedures for future reference and improvement.
  10. Providing mentorship to junior and new clinical research coordinators, and overseeing clinical research activities in the absence of the Principal Investigator.
  11. Identifying and coordinating pharmacy needs related to the study, including tracking orders for study medications.

In instances where staff is unavailable, the incumbent may need to act as the point-of-contact for research activities across different sites.

Additionally, the role may involve leading efforts in securing research grants, developing study materials, and submitting grant proposals.


Key Responsibilities
  1. Participant Interaction (40%): Engaging with research participants and performing related tasks, including specimen collection per protocol, follow-up care, and coordinating with healthcare providers.
  2. Data Quality Assurance (40%): Ensuring the integrity of study data, interacting with collaborators for data inquiries, and participating in compliance audits.
  3. Mentorship and Training (20%): Training other study coordinators, maintaining training documentation, and serving as a liaison for protocol compliance.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a scientific, health-related, or business administration field, or a valid nursing license in the State of Georgia.

Experience: A minimum of 4 years in research administration or related study experience, with a preference for candidates who have engaged in research-related activities.

Specific Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational abilities, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in MS Office and comfort with various technological platforms is essential. A friendly demeanor is crucial for ensuring a positive experience for the veteran population.

Certifications: Certification as a Research Associate (CRA) or Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) is preferred.
