Job Description

At SMTC Corporation, we are seeking a highly skilled Product Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for designing and developing manufacturing processes to support the production of high-quality products for our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead technical discussions with internal and external customers to ensure that all standards are met.
  • Develop and implement new product introduction (NPI) launch activities.
  • Design and develop tooling and fixtures to support manufacturing.
  • Review customer product change notices (PCNs) and ensure that all changes are properly captured and accounted for.
  • Develop and ensure manufacturing processes are robust, error-proofed, and simple to perform.
  • Analyze performance data and lead improvement initiatives to improve quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Support PPAP elements, pFMEA, control plans, and other documentation as required.
  • Develop manufacturing processes to support customer needs, process layout, and optimization.
  • Support manufacturing and ensure daily production targets are met.
  • Support the development of a safe, ergonomic, and environmentally sound workplace.
  • Support and adhere to the Quality Management System.
  • Attend conferences, seminars, and training as required.
  • Provide training to other engineers, technicians, and operators as required.
  • Travel to suppliers and customers as required.

Requirements:

  • BS degree in a related engineering discipline preferred.
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma certification preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and good analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience with customers on identifying and suggesting DFx opportunities.
  • Solid engineering experience in the printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) industry in a high-reliability environment; contract manufacturing experience a plus.
  • Ideal experience to include working with all areas of PCBA – SMT, Thru-hole, Press Fit, etc.
  • Experience with RoHS and familiar with IPC-610 and J-STD-001 workmanship standards.
  • Strong leadership and coaching/mentoring skills.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills – written and verbal.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, self-direction, and self-discipline to plan and accomplish objectives and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Exhibit a “Can-Do” attitude and actively seek solutions to problems; good team player with a pleasant personality.
