Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Animal Care Dispatcher to join our team at Pima County, AZ. As an Animal Care Dispatcher, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of animal care services to our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to animal care enforcement and service requests via radio and telephone equipment from the public, division personnel, and other agencies.
  • Prioritize animal care enforcement and service requests and determine appropriate action, including dispatch and referral.
  • Coordinate animal care enforcement and service requests with available field resources.
  • Question callers to obtain relevant information and enter data into the automated database, including the nature and extent of animal illness or injury, and the type of service or enforcement activity requested.
  • Assign service requests and monitor officer safety by maintaining continuous location and status control of units in the field.
  • Refer after-hours requests for a wide variety of health and law enforcement-related requests for assistance.
  • Provide information and explanations on animal care services, fees, policies, laws, ordinances, and practices.
  • Research and respond to inquiries from the public, animal care personnel, and other agencies concerning the status of animals and the location of individuals.
  • Relay calls for assistance to law enforcement agencies.
  • Prepare and maintain records, call logs, and reports.
  • Access and update computer-based animal care-related records and databases and generate required reports and related correspondences.
  • May assist in other animal care dispatch personnel.
  • May provide other animal care services, including conducting license checks and calculating and collecting animal care services fees.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of the Federal Communication Commission for telecommunications equipment.
  • Knowledge of the operation of telecommunication equipment.
  • Knowledge of English grammar, word usage, and spelling.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic functions.
  • Knowledge of the geography of Pima County.
  • Knowledge of applicable animal care regulations.
  • Knowledge of common animal species and their habits.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Skill in reading street maps.
  • Skill in determining priorities.
  • Skill in communicating clearly, accurately, and concisely, both orally and in writing, and effectively relaying details.
  • Skill in handling situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and impartially.
  • Skill in reacting quickly and calmly in emergencies.
  • Skill in the use of automated information systems for entering, retrieving, and tracking data and report generation.
  • Skill in the use of telecommunication equipment.
Qualifications
  • Six months of experience performing any combination of the following duties: performing data entry into an automated system, answering multi-line telephones, operating a PBX or similar telephone switchboards, dispatching of personnel/mobile units by telephone, radio, or computer-based communication systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a dispatcher.
  • Previous customer service experience.
  • Previous experience in data entry.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
