Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Advisor to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing academic advising and counseling services to students, as well as assisting with program review and student retention efforts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide academic advising and counseling services to students, including individual and group meetings, to ensure their academic success and career goals are met.
  • Monitor students' academic progress, maintain detailed records, and conduct referrals as necessary.
  • Assist with program review and student retention efforts, including surveys, focus groups, orientation sessions, workshops, and intervention groups.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with faculty, administrators, and parents/guardians to support students' academic advising, counseling, consultation, referral, and information services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the academic success of students.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and experience working with students from low-income, disadvantaged educational backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist students in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Minimum of one year of experience advising or counseling in a college setting.
  • FAFSA knowledge and experience in financial aid.
  • Working knowledge of college and university admissions, transfer policies, and financial assistance processes.
  • Proven commitment to college student population.
  • Ability to work in teams and maintain confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with college students.
  • Experience working in a community college.
  • Working knowledge of Federal Financial Aid.
  • Outstanding programming skills to enhance the quality of academic and personal lives of students.
  • Experience with Datatel Colleague.
Work Environment

This is a part-time position, with a maximum of 19 hours per week. The successful candidate will be required to work Monday through Friday, 8am to 1:00 pm, with the possibility of working evenings during peak registration.

Compensation

The minimum starting hourly rate is $20.
