We are seeking a highly skilled Embedded Software Engineer to join our team at Penn State University's Applied Research Laboratory (ARL). The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and testing software for autonomous vehicle guidance and control.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, particularly in embedded systems, and experience with programming languages such as C and C++. They will also be familiar with Agile development methodologies and have excellent communication and teamwork skills.

As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects, collaborate with a talented group of researchers and engineers, and contribute to the development of innovative solutions for the Navy, Department of Defense, and Intel Community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement software for autonomous vehicle guidance and control
  • Collaborate with the team to integrate and test software systems
  • Generate software documentation and presentations
  • Occasional travel to support field testing and demonstrations

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science discipline
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with software development for embedded systems
  • Knowledge of Agile development methodologies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with C and C++ programming languages
  • Knowledge of embedded protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, and Ethernet
  • Experience with microcontroller programming
  • Knowledge of Git, Linux, and scripting languages such as Python or MATLAB

Working Location:

The working location for this position will be fully on-site, located in State College, PA. Periodic travel to remote locations may be required to support testing as part of a small team of researchers, engineers, and technologists.

Security Clearance:

This position will require a government security investigation, and the successful candidate must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with the ARL will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
