ROLE EXPECTATIONS:

The Secondary Education Instructor will serve as the authority on virtual curriculum delivery, responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing instructional strategies. This role includes providing dedicated support to students, fostering a positive and adaptable learning environment, both in-person and online. Collaboration with the School Leader, Guidance Counselor, and Student Success Team is essential to ensure an enriching experience for students and their families.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Guide students through online learning materials; provide tutoring support both in-person and virtually.
  • Engage in regular communication with students to encourage progress and accountability.
  • Implement academic behavior plans and interventions as necessary.
  • Conduct training sessions on software and online platforms for new students.
  • Collaborate with Special Education partners to ensure compliance with 504 and IEP plans.
  • Understand pupil accounting requirements to secure funding for the Academy's programs.
  • Work alongside the Student Success Team, School Leader, and Guidance Counselor to facilitate student success and necessary interventions.
  • Administer state and local assessments in accordance with testing guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records of confidential information, test scores, and student grades.
  • Exhibit proficiency in subject matter, instructional techniques, and the integration of technology.
  • Teach students about conduct and etiquette.
  • Design and implement individual and group learning activities aligned with the online curriculum.
  • Prepare and share student progress reports with parents/guardians, with support from the Guidance Counselor.
  • Supervise students within the Academy and on its grounds.
  • Foster a positive classroom atmosphere and address academic and behavioral concerns as needed.
  • Encourage ongoing communication with parents/guardians to build strong home-Academy relationships.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and virtual meeting platforms.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the School Leader.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate for grades 6-12, with endorsements in English and/or Math.
  • Strong customer service skills for engaging with students, families, and community members.
  • Proficient in utilizing technology for instructional and operational purposes.
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively.
  • Comfortable with both onsite and virtual teaching methods.
  • Demonstrated success in instructional delivery and classroom management.
  • Compassionate approach to working with students facing challenges in completing high school.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong leadership and motivational abilities.
  • Ability to establish appropriate boundaries while fostering supportive relationships with students.
  • Clearance of criminal records and unprofessional conduct.
