Automation Controls Engineer

The Automation Controls Engineer plays a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and maintaining automation systems that drive efficiency and meet product specifications. These systems encompass water-based calibration equipment for flow instrumentation, automated manufacturing equipment for welding assembly and testing, and logistical support for shipping and warehousing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Troubleshoot and maintain manufacturing automation systems to ensure seamless operations.
  • Design and develop PLC and loop controller systems in accordance with project requirements, adhering to timely deadlines.
  • Program and troubleshoot PLCs and loop controllers from various manufacturers, including Automation Direct and Allen-Bradley.
  • Create and manage HMI terminals for user interaction with controllers, enhancing user experience.
  • Program equipment controllers and implement additional controls as needed to optimize system performance.
  • Design and layout electrical control panels, enclosures, and associated controls, ensuring safety and efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain databases to store and retrieve critical system information.
  • Document control system designs and track modifications for future reference, promoting knowledge sharing and collaboration.
  • Participate in performance testing, commissioning, and project startup to ensure successful system deployment.
  • Collaborate with engineers and IT teams to ensure designs meet standards and are delivered accurately and on time.
  • Address and resolve end-user issues with automation equipment, providing timely support and solutions.
  • Provide technical, diagnostic, and repair support to Manufacturing and Service as required, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Assist with facility electrical troubleshooting, coordinating with electricians and external vendors to resolve issues efficiently.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering, or Controls Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Over five years of relevant experience or training in automation and controls engineering.
  • Proficient in programming PLCs using ladder logic (LL), function block diagrams (FBD), and other programming languages.
  • Knowledgeable in industrial communication protocols such as HART, Modbus, BACnet, and Ethernet/IP.
  • Experience in HMI design and programming.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, along with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Access.
