Division: Nacelle and Thrust Reversers

Job Summary:

As a Painter Master, you will leverage your advanced technical expertise and comprehensive understanding of industry standards and regulatory requirements to ensure the quality of paint applications on original equipment manufactured parts, components, and complete subsystems for aircraft operations. You will execute various specialized tasks essential to this role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct paint applications on OEM parts, components, and subsystems for aircraft, utilizing a range of complex products and processes to apply primer, topcoat paint, and other spray-applied coatings in compliance with government, customer, and company standards.
  • Interpret specifications and documentation to accurately define the scope of work outlined in work orders.
  • Prepare surfaces by cleaning grease and dirt, removing rust using various methods, and applying masking tape to protect areas not intended for coating. Fill imperfections with putty to achieve a smooth finish.
  • Calculate mixing ratios to combine paint materials effectively. Select and prepare coating liquids to achieve the desired color, and set up spray equipment for application.
  • Choose appropriate personal protective equipment for each task, ensuring proper fit and functionality of respirators when required.
  • Apply coatings to surfaces using spray techniques and brushes for areas that are difficult to reach. Perform post-application tasks such as cleaning equipment and brushes with solvents.
  • Undertake additional duties as necessary, which may involve tasks in different job classifications and departments.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: No formal education required; experience and training may substitute for educational requirements.
Experience: Minimum of 7 years in aircraft painting.

Skills and Competencies:
  • Proficient in the use of equipment necessary for job performance.
  • Ability to train others in the proper application and quality standards of primer and topcoats.
  • Certification and training in respirator use, including fit testing.
  • Completion of pulmonary function tests.
  • Successful completion of Jaeger color perception eye tests.

Physical Requirements:

Must be capable of working beyond eight hours per day and five days per week as needed. Employees at NORDAM Repair Division must also be able to navigate stairs.

Work Environment:

While performing job duties, employees may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and varying weather conditions. Noise levels may range from loud to moderate.

Supervision:
  • Work independently while establishing priorities and objectives with minimal management consultation.
  • Adapt techniques and tools as necessary to meet specific needs.
  • Seek management approval as required.
