Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Surgical Services team at Jennie Stuart Medical Center. As a Surgical Registered Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide safe and reliable patient care in accordance with JSMC policy and procedure, CMS standards and regulations, and Joint Commission standards and regulations.
  • Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.
  • Promote patient independence by establishing patient care goals, teaching patients, friends, and family to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills, and answering questions.
  • Assure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards, measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards, making or recommending necessary adjustments, and following hospital and nursing division's philosophies and standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations.
  • Resolve patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations, and calling for assistance from healthcare support personnel.
  • Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Document patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
  • Maintain continuity among nursing teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintain patient confidence and protecting operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Complete Nursing History and Assessment accurately within 24 hours of admission.
  • Determine and deliver age-appropriate care.
  • Delegate duties based on complexity of patient needs.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills in prioritization of care.
  • Develop, prioritize, update, and maintain individualized plan of care.
  • Coordinate and collaborate Plan of Care with healthcare team.
  • Incorporate Discharge planning needs on the Plan of Care.
  • Document interventions that are accurate, pertinent, timely, and legible.
  • Administer medications observing the '6 rights.'
  • Maintain Barcode Override rate < 10%.
  • Administer medication correctly based on patient's age and clinical condition.
  • Include patient, caregivers, and disciplines in care and health teaching.
  • Ability to supervise staff members who provide direct patient care.
  • Practice within the scope of license.
  • As a Studer Group Partner Registered Nurses must have the ability to develop a full understanding of the Studer Group practices and tools and communicate them effectively. Registered Nurses must embrace the Studer Philosophy and Principals by conducting themselves in a professional manner. Registered Nurses will be held accountable to the following Studer Philosophies and Principals: HCAHPS Patient Perception Hourly Rounding with Intention Bedside Shift Report AIDET*Daily Huddles
Requirements
  • Required Licenses: Registered Nurses must hold current license by the state of Kentucky or hold license in a compact state as a Registered Nurse. ACLS preferred.
  • Required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) must be current. Accepted Basic Life Support (BLS) documents: 1. American Heart Association 2. American Red Cross 3. Military Training Network
  • Minimum Work Experience: One year experience in Nursing/Surgery preferred.
  • Minimum Education: Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing. Bachelors of Science in Nursing preferred.
