Job Title: Adjunct Instructor

Job Summary:

Harris-Stowe State University, a historically Black institution located in the heart of St. Louis, Missouri, is seeking applications for adjunct professors in the College of Education. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses using best practices and innovative instructional strategies within the College of Education in the program of Secondary (MS/HS).

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain course syllabi and provide each student with a written statement of course requirements at the beginning of each semester.
  • Prepare and deliver lectures, lead discussions, and perform other activities that are related to and meet course requirements.
  • Conduct appropriate evaluations of student's performances and assign grades based on such evaluations.
  • Maintain records of student's grades and attendance according to University requirements.
  • Provide access to students through regular hours and involvement on campus.
  • Participate in the development and revision of course content, textbook/equipment selection, instructional materials, and teaching assignment/scheduling.
  • Provide academic and career advisement and assistance to students as appropriate.
  • Maintain professional skills and subject expertise through study and involvement in professional organizations.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of an earned graduate degree from an accredited higher education institution.
  • A minimum of 18 credit hours in the subject field at the graduate level.
  • Experience in teaching discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of the pedagogies of university-level teaching, particularly for first-generation University students.
  • Good knowledge of principles and theory of teaching field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with students and the University community.
