Job Summary

The Registered Nurse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the delivery of nursing services to residents in a designated unit. This role involves providing direct care, administering treatments and medications, and organizing daily assignments for direct care staff. The RN Supervisor also supervises direct care staff and makes decisions about resident care needs during their shift, within the scope of their clinical competence and facility policies.

Duties and Essential Functions
  • Makes daily rounds on the assigned unit to observe, examine, or interview residents, verify information from ongoing shifts, and monitor regulatory compliance.
  • Develops and distributes resident care assignments to direct care staff, matching resident needs with staff skills and adjusting assignments as necessary during the shift.
  • Directs daily assignments and evaluates the work of other caregivers, making recommendations regarding resident care, discipline, discharge, and promotion.
  • Provides orientation to the unit and its routines to new team members.
Education, Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements
  • Minimum requirement: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and current, active RN license in the State of Kentucky.
  • Preferred qualifications: One year of experience providing direct care to residents in a long-term care setting.
Working Environment

The Registered Nurse Supervisor works in a fast-paced, 24-hour residential care environment that delivers services primarily to disabled and cognitively impaired residents. The role involves exposure to blood or other body fluids, fumes, or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level is moderate, and the role requires constant work near moving mechanical parts and occasional exposure to risk of radiation.

Physical Demands
  • The Registered Nurse Supervisor is occasionally required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The role frequently requires standing and walking, and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • The role occasionally requires lifting objects of 10 to 25 pounds and occasionally requires lifting and/or moving items up to 100 pounds.
  • The role constantly requires communicating with patients and other care team members, requiring talking and hearing.
