Job Overview:

As a Broadband Technician, your primary responsibility will be to facilitate new installations of our cable television and broadband services. You will operate a company vehicle, visit customer residences, and represent Mediacom in all interactions. Your role will encompass a variety of tasks including installation, service modifications, outlet additions, service disconnections, payment collection, and addressing any special installation requests from customers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute customer drop installations, ensuring completion from tap to antenna terminals on customer equipment in both single and multi-unit dwellings, including pre-wired locations.
  • Carry out new connections, reconnections, service disconnections (both requested and non-pay), add outlets, and install or remove converters while performing service upgrades and downgrades.
  • Assess picture quality and determine the acceptability of the signal delivered post-installation.
  • Utilize connectors, fasteners, and wiring, employing hand tools as necessary.
  • Operate standard CATV hand and power tools in the execution of job duties.
  • Complete necessary paperwork as directed by management.
  • Measure signal levels using a field strength meter; troubleshoot installation issues by adding or subtracting levels; install connectors on various drop cables; maintain proper clearances; and install tap-off devices.
  • Climb poles and other structures safely using appropriate equipment.
  • Lift and transport loads up to 100 lbs., including ladders; work in confined spaces such as crawl areas.
  • Effectively use, store, and maintain a VOM or DMM to check for electrical continuity and voltages.
  • Interpret general drop system layouts from blueprints.
  • Educate customers on FCC regulations and company policies.
  • Drive company vehicles and perform necessary vehicle maintenance.
  • Generate additional revenue through effective sales techniques and by informing customers about product options and promotions.
  • Assist with clean-up and salvage of materials; provide support to colleagues as needed.


Position Requirements:
  • No prior experience necessary.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is essential.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and familiarity with consumer devices.
  • Strong communication skills for interaction with customers and team members.
  • Ability to work in elevated or confined spaces.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions and at different heights.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.


Physical Demands:
  • Frequent handling of heavy materials and tools is required.
