Job Summary:

The Surgical Technologist in Labor and Delivery will assist in nursing care and preparation of surgical patients. This role requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of surgical procedures and be able to maintain a sterile environment.

Responsibilities:

* Assist in nursing care and preparation of surgical patients
* Assemble, organize and complete case carts according to doctors preference lists
* Provide appropriate instrumentation, suture and all supplies as requested
* Maintain a sterile environment
* Assist surgeon by passing instruments to surgeon during cases
* Count sponges, needles, blades and instruments using proper technique and established policy
* Assist in maintenance and care of specimens and prepares for laboratory analysis
* Handle specimens, implants, dressings, soiled instruments, contaminated materials and sharps in accordance with established policy and recommended standards of practice
* Assist with timely turnover of rooms, including clean up, replacement and restocking of supplies and equipment
* Care for instruments and equipment

Requirements:

* High school diploma or GED is required
* Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval
* Graduation from formal, accredited surgical technologist program is requirement
* Registered in state of practice as a Surgical Technologist is required

Preferred qualifications include 1 year of OR scrubbing experience and 1 year of clinical experience in an accredited hospital.

Regular attendance to perform work on site during regularly scheduled business hours or scheduled shifts is required. Ability to work nights and/or weekends is required for identified positions.

Physical Requirements:

* Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
* Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
* Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy.
* Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
* Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.).

This position is a night shift position with 12 hour shifts. The role is a full-time position with 36 hours/week.
