Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Port-of-Entry Inspector Trainee to join our team at the Idaho Transportation Department. As a Port-of-Entry Inspector Trainee, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of commercial vehicles across the state's borders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect commercial vehicles and materials for size and weight, safety, and hazards using electronic devices and visual inspection.
  • Determine if licenses and permits are current and valid, and verify driver qualifications, including licenses, medical cards, and logbooks.
  • Issue and sell temporary and oversize permits and registrations, and collect fees for permits, registrations, and citations.
  • Operate a cash register and account for monies received, and prepare and deliver bank deposits.
  • Issue warnings or citations for violations and receive fines and bonds, and write incident and activity reports.
  • Provide directions and information on road conditions and travel facilities, and work various shifts, including weekends.
Requirements
  • Some knowledge of English, including proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling, and experience with Windows or a comparable operating system.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers, interpret and apply rules and regulations, write reports, and deal with the public in stressful situations.
  • Valid driver's license.
