As a key member of our care team, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing a program of therapeutic activities designed to meet the social, spiritual, intellectual, emotional, educational, and physical needs and interests of our residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver therapeutic recreational services to promote residents' opportunities for engaging in normal life enhancement pursuits and to increase and/or maintain functioning levels.
  • Assure physician's approval for involvement in recreational services; maintain precautions/limitations list on each resident.
  • Provide residents with opportunity and support for involvement in group and individual leisure pursuits (i.e. arts/crafts, community outings, religious activities, intellectual/educational activities, community/center service activities) based upon individual interests and needs.
  • Invite/encourage residents' participation.
  • Assist residents in the organization and implementation of Resident Council Meetings.
  • Plan community activities that jointly include the community, staff, families, and residents.
  • Complete a monthly calendar of available recreational services and post it in the center.
  • Assist in the development of the Center Newsletter.
  • Coordinate an effective Volunteer Program.
  • Chart individual resident's attendance and participation in both group, individual, and one-on-one recreational pursuits daily.
  • Support each resident's right to self-determination; document resident refusal of activity services offered; inform resident of any therapeutic alternative to the refused service.
  • Coordinate work of department with work of other departments.
  • Assist in developing preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the activities needs of each resident.
  • Ensure that all activities personnel are aware of the care plan and that care plans are used in providing daily activities to the resident.
  • Develop and maintain a good rapport with all services involved with the care plan to ensure that a team effort is achieved in developing a comprehensive plan of care.
Requirements
  • Completion of a state-approved training course.
  • Qualification as an Occupational Therapist or Therapist Assistant and/or Qualification as an Activity Professional or Recreational Therapist who is licensed or registered either nationally or by the state in which practicing; and eligible for certification as an Activity Professional or as a Therapeutic Recreational Specialist by a recognized accrediting body on or after October 1, 1990.
  • Two years of experience conducting social/recreational programs within the past five years, one of which was full-time in a patient activities program in a health care setting is preferred.
