Position Overview:
The Department of History of Art at the University of Michigan is seeking candidates for a full-time, tenured role for the Ilene H. Forsyth Distinguished Professorship in Early Modern Art. This appointment will be at the level of associate or full professor, focusing on art created globally between 1400 and 1800 CE.

Research and Teaching Focus:
Applicants are encouraged to explore a variety of themes in their research and teaching, including but not limited to mobility, materiality, ecology, race, and gender. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, supervising doctoral candidates, and engaging in departmental service and activities.

Application Requirements:

1. A cover letter
2. Current curriculum vitae
3. Statement of teaching philosophy and experience
4. Statement outlining current and future research plans
5. A writing sample (35-40 pages maximum)
6. Syllabi for two recent courses (one undergraduate and one graduate) along with corresponding student evaluations
7. Teaching evaluations and evidence of teaching excellence
8. Three letters of reference
9. A diversity statement demonstrating commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through scholarship, teaching, or service.

Additional Information:
There may be some overlap between the research proposal and teaching statements (1-3 pages). Candidates will undergo a criminal background check and an institutional reference check regarding any misconduct. A self-disclosure form and authorization to release information will also be required, and candidates must meet all degree requirements prior to the start of the position.
