Position Overview

This part-time DMV Customer Service Representative position is based at a customer service center and involves direct customer interaction regarding driver licensing and vehicle registration. Responsibilities include issuing driver's licenses, ID cards, instruction permits, motor vehicle registrations, vehicle titles, and license plates. The role also entails determining and collecting appropriate fees from customers and assisting those who require identification for voting purposes. In addition to in-person duties, this position may involve online processing and responding to public inquiries via phone.

This role is expected to require 28 hours of work per week, typically structured as 4 seven-hour days, with potential for flexible scheduling.

Compensation Details

This position falls within a specific pay schedule, starting at $21.66/hour, with a $1.40/hour increase after one year of satisfactory performance. Advancement to the Advanced level typically occurs after 18 months of service, with a minimum pay of $25.32/hour. Saturday shifts may be required, with an additional $0.80/hour for all Saturday hours worked. A 12-month probationary period is mandatory. Pay for current state employees will align with the existing State Compensation Plan.

Job Requirements

WisDOT does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment will depend on the applicant's ability to demonstrate valid work status in the United States.

Prior to any appointments for positions filled from this announcement, candidates may undergo a comprehensive criminal background check, which may include FBI fingerprinting.

Possession of a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire is required for positions that involve driver license examining. Positions performing these functions have the potential to earn no less than $27.37/hour after a specified period.

This position may involve regular travel from a headquarters office to various locations during the work week to provide motor vehicle services to the public or may require occasional travel to local public or technical schools to deliver the described services.
