Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist to join our team at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Principal EEO Officer/Accommodations Officer in implementing and administering APL's Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Accommodations policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Policy Implementation and Administration: Assist in the development, implementation, and administration of APL's EEO and Accommodations policies, including reviewing reports, requests, and submissions, and investigating alleged policy violations.
  • Accommodation Requests: Review and adjudicate workplace accommodation requests from staff members with disabilities or other protected characteristics, and provide recommendations for reasonable accommodations.
  • Investigations and Research: Conduct investigations into complaints of EEO policy violations, analyze evidence, and prepare reports of investigation (ROI) and accompanying correspondence.
  • Government Investigations and Queries: Assist in responding to government investigations and queries related to EEO and Accommodations policies.
  • Training and Development: Assist in creating and presenting training programs on EEO and Accommodations policies and procedures to staff members at all levels.
  • Research and Compliance: Stay up-to-date on federal laws and policies related to EEO and Accommodations, and provide recommendations for improving or enhancing existing policies and their implementation.
Qualifications
  • Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an American Bar Association (ABA)-accredited law school or equivalent.
  • Experience: At least three years of directly applicable experience in EEO and Accommodations, including at least one year of conducting investigations and writing case reports related to compliance with federal, state, or local anti-discrimination laws and regulations.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, including excellent verbal and written communication skills, mediation skills, and empathy working with employees at all experience levels and from a wide spectrum of backgrounds.
  • Other Requirements: Ability to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance, U.S. citizenship, and ability to work in a matrixed environment.
