Job Summary:

As a key member of our healthcare team, the Inpatient Pharmacist will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective use of medications for our patients. This position requires a strong understanding of pharmacological principles, medical terminology, and disease states. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and manage medication therapy for hospitalized patients to ensure optimal therapeutic outcomes and cost-effective prescribing.
  • Review laboratory test results and patient progress to detect potential adverse drug reactions and confer with medical personnel as needed.
  • Interview patients to gather information about medication use, allergies, and sensitivities, and document this information in the patient's electronic medical record.
  • Provide patients with clear instructions on medication use, storage, and precautions, and advise on the use of related devices and coordination of drug therapy with diet.
  • Collaborate with medical personnel to provide medication information, drug therapy options, and pharmacokinetic dosing advice.
  • Dispense, compound, procure, store, and distribute pharmacy products, and monitor the effectiveness and accuracy of medication distribution.
  • Participate in education and training programs, and provide inservices and educational programs for pharmacy and medical personnel as needed.
Basic Qualifications:
Education
  • B.S. degree in Pharmacy or Pharm.D required.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Pharmacist License (California) within 1 month of hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification required.
  • National Provider Identifier required at hire.
Additional Requirements:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current pharmacological principles, medical terminology, and disease states.
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique and preparation of sterile IV products and chemotherapeutic agents.
  • Knowledge of emergency medications and drug monitoring.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to operate pharmacy computer systems and other equipment.
  • Ability to generate prescription labels.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
